The GK9S team is comprised of industry leading experts with unmatched experience and credentials. Located in Opelika, Alabama, our CSCE team is part of our GK9PG’s primary facility located in Opelika, AL – the largest private sector indoor facility dedicated to canine training and handler education in the world. This 75,000 square foot structure is devoted to the growth and progression of canines prior to being paired with their handlers.
Here, our canines’ training journey begins with the basic obedience required of working dogs. Canines become comfortable operating on a leash in a variety of environments (indoors, outdoors, and in and around vehicles).
Socialization of canines ensures they are relaxed operating as a working canine in and around people and experience a variety of environment conditions. Canines are also entered into our distinctive conditioning and aerobic exercise program. This helps to build stamina, so canines can maintain their peak performance.
Phased Approach
Our Canine Subject Matter Experts understand today’s threat is continuously evolving, which presents a unique set of challenges that requires the deployment of a specific type of detection dog trained to be an unobtrusive and dynamic tool. Our clients come from a large cross-section of business ecosystems: Sports, Entertainment, Transportation, Maritime, Parks & Attractions, and Technology. Each genre presents a unique set of challenges, each of which our canines are specially trained to overcome.
Our Program provides Best-in-Class canines which are hand-selected, trained, and operationally capable of deployment to meet today’s domestic and global threats. Our Canine Training Professionals are world-class leaders in the detection dog industry working to address today’s threats with an eye on the future.
Canines learn the initial skill of searching scent boxes and learning their first odors. During this phase our canine learns an initial search pattern and correct responses on a target odor get a reward. The reward system is also taught during this phase which carries on as part of the foundation needed for all phases of their development.
During phase one the canine learns the independence of working a scent cone to the source of the target odor. Several “new” search environments are introduced during phase one: vehicles, warehouse configurations, luggage, and room searches. Once the canine has demonstrated proficiency more target odors are introduced as they progress to the next phase of training.
While canines will continue to learn new odors presented following the same method [scent boxes] established in phase one, the introduction to different concentrations of all the explosive target odors, and complex placements of training aids is accomplished during this phase of the training cycle.
Our mission is to build a customized solution unique to the task each canine will encounter during the performance of their detection dog discipline. We build a profile of the work each canine is expected to excel at operationally and create similar learning environments in and around our facility.
Kinetic dogs view people as a productive search area during our training evolutions we use volunteers to build this understanding. Positive reinforcement, appropriate rewards delivered at the source support the canine’s correct response. Once our canines are proficient in a controlled environment, they are introduced into operational conditions like the areas in which they will be expected to perform during daily operations. Our goal is to deliver fully trained and certified teams ready to deploy in support of screening operations.
Canines enter their specific detection dog discipline. Advancement is based on performance during phase one and two. All dogs are not created equal- evaluation is ongoing throughout all phases of training prior to pairing with their future handler.
At any point in the training cycle our canine professional will make the decision to advance or remediate each individual canine to ensure our clients receive world-class, hand-selected, and superior quality canines. Our dogs only advance to the next phase of training if they can demonstrate the ability to master each task proficiently.
